HIS HOLINESS THAVATHIRU PONNAMBALA ADIGALAR ADHEENAKARTHAR, THIRUVANNAMALAI ADHEENAM.

The Present Head of the Thiruvannamalai Adheenam, Thavathiru Ponnambala Adigalar, who is the Forty-sixth disciple of the Adheenam, assumed charge in 1995. He followed the footsteps of Kundrakkudi Adigalar. He not only strengthened the foundation laid by his Guru for the total development of the society but also stepped into new avenues of development through greater emphasis on Science and Technology. After taking charge in 1995 as the Head of the Mutt, he initiated many developmental activities through the implementation of State and Central Government Projects

JAN SHIKSHAN SANSTHAN :

This Project is sponsored by the Ministry of H.R.D., Government of India, to provide technical training to the illiterates, the neo-literate, the unemployed and the underemployed with an Annual Grant of Rs.25 Lakhs. This Project covers an entire District. Within a period of six months nearly 1000 persons undergo training in various trades including agriculture, animal husbandry and horticulture.

FARMERS’ ORGANISATION :

This Project is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture to provide training to the Farmers in the latest technology in agriculture and allied fields. It enables the farmers to visit important centres and farms. Workshops, Discussion Forums and Seminars are the other main programmes.

WATERSHED PROGRAMME :

The Village Planning Forum acts as the N.G.O. in the implementation of the Watershed Programmes in Three Blocks and provides training to the various committees besides guiding in the implementation of the schemes.

VILLAGE PLANNING FORUM :

The Village Planning Forum continues as the basic structure to plan the continuing needs of the villages and meets every month to programme, execute and monitor the needs of the villages. It also interacts with the Village Panchayat leading to synergistic achievement.

WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S DEVELOPMENT :

Thavathiru Ponnambala Adigalar is also concentrating on the development of Women by promoting Self-Help Groups and guiding them in undertaking small industrial activities for improving their economic conditions. He takes much interest in the abolition of child labour.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICE :

Thavathiru Ponnambala Adigalar is evincing keen interest in the development of the educational institutions under his Trusteeship. He is bent upon lifting Thiruvalluvar College to great heights as an institution of excellence.
