About Department

The College offered History as a subject at the Pre-University level in the year 1972. Mrs. Lalitha Bai was the first lady Lecturer of the Department on 1st August 1972.After her tenure Selvi Jothibai Ponmani joined as Lecturer in the Department in 1973. A long-cherished dream of a distinct Department of History was realised in 1973.History as a Major subject for the Degree Course was offered by our College only in this area. Prof.S.Anthony Thangasamy was the first Professor in the Department. Mr.D.Ravindran served as Tutor,got promoted as Lecturer in the Department and then left on 2.7.1974.Prof.P.Arulappan, M.A., M.Ed. was appointed Professor in the place of S.Anthony Thangasamy on 12.06.1974. Mr.K.R.Sathanandham joined the Department on 12.6.1974 as Lecturer in Political Science and Mr.S.Murugaraj joined the Department on 15.7.1974 as Lecturer in History. Mr.N.Mani joined on 21.07.1975. Mr.L.Ravisankar joined the Department in the year 1992. Subsequently Dr.T.Thankappan permanently migrated from APA College of Arts and Culture, Palani, to our College in the year 2001.
